The Northern Clans

The Northern Clans, who call themselves Frisari or People of the Forest, are the human inhabitants of the Great Forest north of the Bounty of Denn. They have lived there for thousands of years, roaming over the land and living in harmony with the forest. They trade tools for pelts with the gut-eaters of the Frozen Shoals, and timber with the southerners. They also regularly trade with the Great Caravans that connect Trendleheim and Kriegswerk, and even established the permanent settlement at Dwarfmeet to facilitate this. The Clansmen are a warlike people, and still raid and feud with eachother, though any conflict that threatens to grow too large is likely to be kept in check by the intercession of the King, who sits as High Chieftan of the entire Frisari people.

Religion of the Northern Clans

The Northern religion is essentially animistic, as they worship the general concept of Nature as well as the individual spirits of trees, animals, and other natural elements. The Triumverist church accepts this belief system as a focus on the Wyld, but in truth the Frisari do not revere the other two pillars of that faith, paying them only lip service to deflect charges of heresy. Their religious center is the Heart of the Forest, an enormous tree tended to by a community of Wood Elves, the Treetenders, who the Clansmen revere as something between priests and angels. The wood elves taught the religion of the trees to the Northerners centuries ago, and every Clansman knows elven prayer-songs to sing while logging, hunting, and fighting. The spiritual needs of the clans are tended to almost exclusively by Druids, who learn ancient druidic secrets passed down along family lines, or study under the Treetenders if they are lucky. The more prestigious and powerful Chieftans often learn Elven, to better communicate with their religious leaders.
